Dragon Family Wing Chun

Dragon Family Wing Chun
Dragon Family Wing Chun, founded by Adam Williss, is the method of Wing Chun taught at The Dragon Institute and its affiliate locations under the Dragon Family Wing Chun Association.

The methods of Dragon Family Wing Chun endeavor to represent the true spirit of yin and yang in all that we do. We are both traditional and progressive, classical and modern, absolute and limitless, humble and confident, Eastern and Western, soft and powerful, meditative and hardcore self-defense, original and evolutionary as well as simple yet comprehensive. We hold firm that any good method should be such.

Dragon Family Wing Chun represents the great masters that have made us what we are today. They are the source of our relentless strength and the reason more and more people are looking to become part of our family. They are also the reason we can't allow everyone to become part of our family. We have an extreme obligation to these brilliant masters to accept only those individuals with the character to dedicate themselves to passing on the amazing quality that has been passed to us.

What is unique about Dragon Family Wing Chun versus other types of Wing Chun?

Many others in Wing Chun seem to focus very little on the details and basics during their training. They simply don’t put in enough time on the foundations and quality repetitions required to put Wing Chun’s concepts into their muscle memory. Some place little focus on structure, others only focus only on shorter ranges. Some place too much emphasis on cultural tradition. Others don’t spar at all. Many treat their class time like it’s a social club. Most resist and insist against an opponent’s energy without even considering it wrong. And still others have deviated from Wing Chun’s principles by integrating contrary ideas into their practice. We believe in years of highly concentrated training and an adherence to Wing Chun principles.

Dragon Family Wing Chun is very much a modern approach to the art. We do not over emphasize historical preservation, ancestor worship or dead patterns of movement. Our approach is always based on logical application rather than cultural traditions.

On the other hand, we also do not simply innovate for innovation’s sake. When we find limitations in our ability to apply, we don’t look to add techniques from other martial arts. Instead, we look at what we are doing improperly based on the principles of the art.
